Some of the teeth in the front of your mouth are small or can potentially have shallow tooth enamel. When a cavity forms on one of these teeth in your smile, it might not leave enough healthy tooth enamel for Dr. Catalina Phan to viably anchor a filling at her Campbell, California clinic.

Should this prove to be the case, Dr. Phan might recommend restoring the entire tooth enamel layer with a porcelain crown. The special dental-grade porcelain can be shaded to match the surrounding teeth in your smile. This restoration process involves removing the enamel layer of the tooth. This leaves behind a post-like abutment consisting of a layer of healthy dentin surrounding the pulp within.

Next, a detailed impression will be taken of the area, which is sent to our dental lab. This will serve as a guide while they produce the porcelain crown. Dr. Phan will secure a temporary crown over the abutment to protect it. A second appointment will be needed when the porcelain crown is completed. Once Dr. Catalina Phan cements it in place, it will restore the tooth’s function and appearance for many years to come.
